for me the tree is saved, tested with the KDE4 version of digiKam. Also the new
collapse patch should handle the expand when searching for keywords.

About the initial problem: Now that we have collapseView() function, a button
could be added to collapse the tree and only expand to the current viewed
album. Like it would do if you use the clear button in the klineedit widget.
