... hmmmm ... for features like this, it would probably be worthwhile *always* identifying the storage medium and not the camera.

 * people may have multiple cards for their cameras
 * people may use the same card one time from the camera and another time from a cardreader.

... and: info about already downloaded pictures should certainly be moved into the digikam database if digikam moves towards being able to share digikam databases between multiple users.  A "family camera" might be plugged in into any of the accounts using the digikam database.

... and I'm not thinking about somebody using the same storage card with multiple cameras.  Many cameras will probably get hopelessly confused if anybody does that.
