Why, both histogram are a little bit different. Because the target histogram is computed using preview on screen which is smaller than original, not the full image as well. The reason is simple the : performance.

Histogram is a guide here...

The auto-levels always give the best result for me in 90% of case. Try to compare all others auto-color adjustment tools, and you will see what i mean.
