In fact if you have doubts on the real nature of a file you can run the 'file' 
command from the command line:
$ file Fotos/Testing/DSC_2.png
$ Fotos/Testing/DSC_2.png: JPEG image data, EXIF standard

or with ImageMagick tools:
$ identify Fotos/Testing/DSC_2.png
$ Fotos/Testing/DSC_2.png JPEG 3008x2000 DirectClass 3.3mb 0.440u 0:02
