Additional remark to the desktop files discussed in #c7:
It seems necessary to run kbuildsycoca.
Moreover, it might be necessary to run this a couple of times
until it works? (At least I just had a situation where it did
not work immediately for whatever reasons ...)
(One way to check is to use konqueror and see if the new
entry is visible under the right-mouse pop-up menu "Open with" of a jpeg file.)
