I'm thinking more in the line of Arnd here. The greyed tags and label are already visible, perhaps it would be easy to just add a button to the panel "activating" this greyed selection for all of the current selection?

Though I'm also quite pleased with the idea of sampling tags off an existing image (that is not part of the current selection).
