for the record, my album should be created under:
/home/angelo/Pictures/Foto/2008/11
as confirmed by:
digikam(22641) Digikam::CollectionManager::locationForPath: Testing location  1
"/home/angelo/Pictures/Foto/2008/11" "/home/angelo/Pictures"
