I don't think that this bug is duplicate!
Yesterday build this future worked fine and it works with jpg
my environment:
fedora 10 32bit
KDE-4.1.80


moreover the embedded image start work for JPG or cr2 after I've removed 
~/.kde/share/config/digikamrc
