the explanation you give is understandable to me (speeding up the processes).
So maybe it is not a bug. On the other hand it would be a wish to me that there
was the choice of setting up the resolution of the preview picture, as I
use digikam for watching my pictures, too, and the easiest way of doing so
is to watch them in the preview mode.
