Quite likley,

kfmclient is located in the konqueror package.

Can you install konqueror on your system and see if that helps your usage of 
digikam moving things to trash? I understand you may wish to minimise your 
dependancies, but at least for testing purposes it would be useful to try.

digikam does indeed recommend konqueror, which means that the 'packages would 
be found together in all but unusual installations'
