Without being able to provide a better solution (see #9 above ;-),
a timer dependent approach seems problematic - if there is a huge system
load, or a slow machine, 100 ms might not be enough.
Is there a Qt way to do this at a well defined place
(like an exit handler/ or on delete of an object)?
