Personally I don't think that things would be changed very often.

IMO better thing would be auxiliary menu/tool bar (a la FotoStation and
AFAIR IMatch) at the top of album view with album gui options: sorting,
sub-(tags|albums). Maybe move filtering there in future or exactly
reverse: put those mini-menus in status bar.
