This is most likely a problem with the setup for gphoto2 which is used
to communicate with the camera.

Could you try the following commands and report their output:
a) connect camera, what is the output of dmesg
   (only the camera related part)
b) gphoto2 --list ports
c) gphoto2 --auto-detect -L
d) gphoto2 --abilities
e) gphoto2 --list-folders
