Presumably 16Bit and Color Management are not needed.
If there is a way to load the full size image in the background,
and to display that from a certain zoom-level on,
this would of course be fantastic -
The light-table would feel as fast as right now,
but offer the full size view ``just in time''.
(I think that picasa does something like this, at
least there is a short message "Refining", when
selecting and zooming into an image).

And yes: it might be also useful for the preview
(and maybe even for the image editor itself?)
