Alright, this makes it clear. Presently this is not possible in the image
editor, because there is no concept of selections.
One option to do this right now, is to use krita (or gimp) to select
the oval region and for example vary the curves just for the region
until the colors match (one gets pretty far when using
a curve whose slope is slightly increasing all along).

Overall, to me this seems like a quite specialized situation
which is better dealt with a full-fledged image manipulation
than a plugin for digikam,
