The bug seems to be still alive with 
digikam 2:0.8.2-3
libgphoto2-2 2.2.1-12 
libgphoto2-2-dev 2.2.1-12 
on debian testing using our canon EOS 350D in PTP mode (non-PTP mode doesn't work either, but PTP-mode worked fine before the upgrade).
