In my requirements, I put "keep it simple". It always looks great to have more and more features, but maybe it's not always useful, at least for most people. I'm in favor of iteration in the software process, ie I think it's better to start simple and safe (bug free) rather than trying to do everything at the same time...

I was about to add a new comment about database management that could solve some of the problems you mentioned. 
But, you can still use symlinks in your Picture directory to point to other directories (yes, it would not be very convenient if your device is not permanently attached).
