1. Don't use digiKam print plugin, instead I suggest you  use the standard 
kprinter dialog from Image Editor via File->Print Image.

2. Select 4x6 paper

3. Select the desired orientation: portrait or landscape.

4. Select "use custom margins", here I set to 0 all of them, because my 
printer can print borderless images.

5. Be sure the resolution in "Driver settings" is adecuated and the "Scale the 
image to fit" option is enabled in "Image settings" tab.
