I cannot reproduce it with mpeg, mpg, mov, avi, wmf, etc... Questions :

1/ Witch version of digiKam you using ?
2/ Witch video format you using ?
3/ The current code check if current album item is a image file only. Have you set a video mimetype in image file mime type list of setup dialog ?
