Oh, that was a good hint. With the additional informations I could verify that 
there was a libpng version-mishmash on my computer alltough I use only 
standard Gentoo update. When installing a new libpng manually I discovered 
that digikam still used the old version. So I removed every libpng file 
(libpng-config, pkg.pc) and installed latest libpng. Now digikam used the 
correct version and problem was gone. AS I have more computers with this 
setup I have to test, if I have there the problem, too.
