I suspect a problem relevant of glibc and/or kernel. I have talking with some multithreading guru under linux at work, and this problem is know with PIV-HT CPU computers, not with _real_ multi-CPU computers.

Perhaps you can solve the problem to update kernel and libc, if you can...
