Without backtrace, we cannot do anything...

Have any message from the console ?

Have you tried to run digiKam under gdb to get a backtrace ?

Can you compile digikam from scratch using current implementation from svn stable branch. Debug message are enabled using ./configure --enabled-debug=full option.
