in 0.8-svn in album view you start the viewer by clicking on the thumbnail 
icon and have an (only) exclusive selecting by click on the frame arount the 
thumbnail area. This fixed http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111695
The camera interface has the old style UI which leeds to #111695. Here 
clicking on the thumbnail area or in the frame around starts the viewer.
