           Version: 0.7.4
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: roger.larsson norran net

Version:           0.7.4 (using KDE 3.4.2 Level "b" , SUSE 10.0)
Compiler:          Target: i586-suse-linux
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.13-15-default

Camera -> <specific camera> -> Advanced
"Automatically rotate/flip using camera-provided information (EXIF)"
Will modify your images actual contents due to an lossy recompression (I will add difference image later)

Doing this should NEVER be the default!

You can test this with ImageJ
1. Download to a directory without automatic rotation.
  [digikams view of this directory will be with
   some images in wrong direction]
2. Download to another directory with automatic rotation.
Take a look in both directories using konqueror - they
will be oriented the same.

Use ImageJ to open the files (one will not be rotated).
Use Image->Rotate
Use Process->Image Calculator
 Image1: select the first image
 Operation: subtract
 Image2: select the second image
 Create New Window
 32-bit Result
The resulting image is not all zero...
