Thx for the describtion of your workflow. Maybe this helps to improve
digikam 0.8 even further.

Well, digikamimageplugins and kipi-plugins are different in design:
a kipi-plugin get as input a list of files: loads, manipulate them
and saves them.
digikamimageplugins work on images in memory for speed and you can
use several after each other. The app has to take care when/how
to save the output.
So if anyone of the kipi enabled apps developers is interested in
digikamimageplugins, there tis he possibility to write a generic
'start app' kipi-plugins. This can then, as a special case run
showfoto with a list
of files (optionaly adding watches to inform the app that showfoto
has save a modified file). Then every kipi enabled app can use
digikamimageplugins. Because digikam has (naturally) already a more
integrated interface to digikamimageplugins there no big motivation
(sort of english understatement) from digikam devel side to create
such a kipi-plugin.
Achim -- is no digikam developer so everyting above is maybe horrible
wrong and a shameless guess

To me vi is Zen. To use vi is to practice zen. Every command is
a koan. Profound to the user, unintelligible to the uninitiated.
You discover truth everytime you use it.
