can you do this test:
* reinstall digikam with debugging enabled
* open up a terminal and type kdeinit. there might be a lot of output, clear that.
* run digikam from the same terminal and catch the output
* also there will be some output being printed to the terminal, which you cannot catch (it comes from the kioslaves). i'm specifically interested in this output.
