Summary: Bad UI fpr searching duplicate images
           Product: digikam
           Version: 0.8.0
          Platform: SuSE RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: krienke uni-koblenz de

Version: 0.8.0 (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc4.0.2
OS: Linux

Digikam offers in "Extras->Find duplicate images" a plugin to search for duplicate images. When selected a dialog opens that displays albums (folders) containing images. The albums can now be selected or deselected.

This UI style is good for small album hierarchies but not well suited for more complex album hierrarchies and in the latter case it is not really intuitive.

For example: I wanted to search for duplicate images in a subtree of my album hierarchy so in digikams album browser I selected the root folder for this hierarchy and had expected that "find duplicate images" would now search all the images in all subfolders starting at the selected folder. But opening the "find duplicate images" dialog I found only the single folder selected but not all the subfolders. Since the "find duplicate images" dialog does not represent the hierarchy but only displays a flat view of the folder structure contained therein it is quite impossible to select all the subfolders manually.

Either this dialog should visually present the album hierarchy and let the user select albums in it or it should automaticcaly select the folder *and all* of the *subfolders* of the album currently selected in digikam Album list.

Thanks
Rainer
