Ok having the ability to reorder modifications is a bit complicated :-).
But if you forgot about reordering  what I propose is not very complicated from the user point of view (it's just an undo, redo feature !).
I agree it is hard to implement of course.

An other solution could be to just warn the user that the image has changed and propose to overwrite or to save under a new name which is automatically incremented from the image name. This is easier to implement.
