Instantly "Plays" All Tracks - No Sound

Using Amarok 2.3.0 on Fedora 12 64 bit, installed through the package  
manager: it flies through my playlist, "playing" each track in a fraction  
of a second. No sound is produced.

I found references to this problem on-line for 2.2.0 and the discussions  
had it that the xine libraries were the problem. Checking the libraries in  
the package manager - it seems everything is installed. I've done  
reinstallations, but it always has this same behavior.
