Well, then you should get a newer Phonon (e.g a newer KDE version), as
Amarok doesn't handle sound itself, this depends on the Phonon
version. I don't know which Amarok version you use, but there
certainly is an equalizer since quite some time.

As for the range, this is something you need to ask in kde-multimedia,
not in Amarok.
