If I understand the scenario properly they two systems are in different
buildings and using different equipment. Each has been real world calibrated
(using pink noise and a dB meter) each has been set to a different absolute dB
level (for whatever reason). Software mixers are set and not adjusted. In
this case a dB Scale has a real world meaning a percentage scale does not.
It would be absolutely awesome to be able have each track play at the same
Average SPL. Know what that SPL is in real world terms and be able to make
meaningful realworld adjustments to that level.
I have suggestions on reaching a compromise.
1) if not using a dB scale - put a dB value into the tooltip of the volume
control. This will be slower and more painful to calibrate but at least it can
be done.
2) perhaps implement numeric entry into the slider to allow for precise
adjustments. A lot of professional packages in different fields implement this
by double clicking on the control. You may feel this is completely outside the
scope of Amarok and I completely understand that.
I guess some of us like Amarok and think in dBs.
