How can I edit genre in 1.4?

Load all the tracks from a genre you want to remove into the playlist,
then select all of them and edit the genre and remove the contents.
you can do that either directly in the playlist (by showing the genre
column),  or by editing all tracks in the playlist at once. Warning
though - the latter could be slow.

Maybe that's what you want.
