I'm not entirely sure that we are addressing the same issue here.
I think you are concerned about the proper display of various artist
albums in the main playlist, which already supports some custom layouts
that allow you to deal with compilations in a more or less decent way.
The local collection and the albums applet, however, do not offer any
support for that at the moment.
Thus, looking for a song of a particular artist on a compilation by
browsing the local collection is quite impossible at the moment (aside
from additionally using a filter).
The same goes for the albums applet, except that there are no filters,
which makes this task even more difficult.

Or is it that I am missing a point and the local collection and the
albums applet will also get custom layouts in the near future which will
support browsing through compilations like described above?
