Here are some tips for everyone:

Amarok writes both ID3v2.4 and ID3v1, although some very old versions
may only write the ID3v2.4 tag.

At this point, you should try to avoid using Taglib 1.4. Most
distributions have incremental snapshots of Taglib 1.4 that contained
various fixes released into the source code at various points. But
1.5 contains all of those fixes, so please use that. Bug your
distribution to upgrade if need be.

id3v2, which IIRC is part of id3lib, does not handle ID3v2.4. It only
handles ID3v2.3, and will report either a missing ID3v2 tag or only a
ID3v1 tag. Many other programs have still not been updated to use
ID3v2.4. In short, just because some other program says there is no
tag doesn't mean there isn't one -- use eyeD3 when in doubt.
