Slightly OT, but if you're wearing headphones while sleeping be
careful. I wore mine a lot and rolling over while wearing them can
damage the cable until eventually it kicks the bucket completely. That
was using sennheisers.

Anyway, I solved the problem of auto-shutdown by writing a script to
save and shutdown amarok using dcop calls and then shut down the PC
completely.. Then I scheduled the script to run at a certain time
using the "at" program, you'll need run it with SU privileges for
shutdown to work.
