Help please!!! I'm a novice to Linux

Hi to all! I want to install the new version 4.0 of KDE on my PC but I
can't delete Windows XP from it because I stil need XP for some
programs that I'm using now. Can you tell me if I install KDE, this
will delete all my software from my local Disks? It will format them?
Or I can have both of OS installed on my machine Linux and Windows?
Maybe this works like Parallels on Macs where I can switch Windows
from my Mac OS?
I just can't found any information about this.
Please help me!!!
