It's the same for me although I am looking forward to see it even improve
(and I saw some very good mockups on this mailinglist so I am quite
confident it will even get better).

I face exactly the same thing. I have no clue what is going wrong, but this
is very annoying (and made me switch back to 1.4). I am running kubuntu with
kde4. Did I understand it right that I have to completely delete the amarok
directory in ~/.kde/share/apps and the amarokrc file in ~/.kde/share/config
? What else should I do. I can access my old mysql amarok database perfectly
by hand, but importing fails. Am I missing packages maybe?

regards,

Nico
