debugging

Amarok: 1.4.9.1

I am playing sound through the hdmi header on my motherboard connected 
to a digital input on my receiver.
It works until a system sound plays.
Then sound output from Amarok stops and trying to restart Amarok from a 
command line doesn't work (it seems to be in an infinite loop).
I thought there may be console output. :-(

So how do I debug Amarok?
