There seems to be quite a bit of progress being made on the gtkpod-devel 
mailing list, if you really want to know check out their archives. 

Hopefully it should be as easy as getting the new libgpod once the code is 
ready then amarok and all the other apps that use libgpod should support the 
new ipods.
