Script Permissions

I find that although I am able to download and install new scripts I cannot 
then run them. I get an error code of 255.

Existing scripts installed with Amarok work, running the scripts in the root 
account works fine, I have access to Python and Ruby, creating a new user 
account produces the same problem, altering all the downloaded files to be 
most promiscuous has no effect and running the scripts in Konsole tells me I 
do not have the proper permissions.

What permissions do I need?

I really need to get this working as replay-gain greatly improves 
my "listening pleasure".

As an aside, does anyone know why CD's pressed in the 1980's are much quieter 
than more modern pressings.
