It is easy to reproduce, if your music is on a separate partition: start 
amarok without mounting the partition! Then all items in the playlist are 
greyed out, if they're from this partition.
But if you quit amarok, mount the partition and start amarok again, they are 
still greyed out.

The items are not checked again until you play them - then they become black 
again.
