Considering how polarized some people seem to be regarding what colors they
think the stars should be, how strong/faded they should be, blah blah blah, I
highly doubt that there will ever be a time when it doesn't "need" to be
optional.
Perhaps while we're at it we should remove the "Angry as Hell" and "Frozen in
the Arctic" themes from the Moodbar. As well as the option to change the
color to make new playlist items. Or install alternate context browser
styles. Let's not allow users to remove the tray icon. Also, allowing users
to select color schemes shouldn't be allowed either -- after all, one reason
the stars were removed was because they didn't look nice with all color
schemes. Also, let's just make the OSD 16 point Arial font, with shadow, for
five seconds on screen 0 and with no translucency -- why would any users have
any reason to want it any differently? But it's okay...removing these
options would be in the best interest of users. After all, adding options
that allow users to have a better or easier user interface experience might
distract from the listening experience.
