As another, posibly related note, I get some strange chars when I try
and browse other peoples music. It doesn't seem to work automatically
via avahi (tho' the command line tools work OK and the relevent nss
resolver is installed etc.)

I add a specific host with iTunes installed on it (OSX) and get this:

amarok: ip found is 192.168.112.78
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::loginRequest()
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::loginRequest() - Took 0.07s
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::loginHeaderReceived(const
QHttpResponseHeader&)
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::loginHeaderReceived(const
QHttpResponseHeader&) - Took 0.00014s
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::loginFinished(int, bool)
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::loginFinished(int, bool) - Took 0.053s
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::updateFinished(int, bool)
amarok:   [WARNING!] (f doesn't work
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::updateFinished(int, bool) - Took 0.00072s
amarok: [WARNING!] pƫ doesn't work
amarok: [WARNING!] &f doesn't work
amarok: songList.count() = 0

and another itunes host manually added:

amarok: ip found is 192.168.112.39
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::loginRequest()
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::loginRequest() - Took 0.00033s
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::loginHeaderReceived(const
QHttpResponseHeader&)
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::loginHeaderReceived(const
QHttpResponseHeader&) - Took 9.7e-05s
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::loginFinished(int, bool)
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::loginFinished(int, bool) - Took 0.00052s
amarok: BEGIN: void Daap::Reader::updateFinished(int, bool)
amarok:   [WARNING!] (f doesn't work
amarok: END__: void Daap::Reader::updateFinished(int, bool) - Took 0.00048s
amarok: [WARNING!] ۣ doesn't work
amarok: [WARNING!] &f doesn't work
amarok: songList.count() = 0
amarok: BEGIN: void DaapClient::createTree(const QString&, Daap::SongList)
amarok: END__: void DaapClient::createTree(const QString&,
Daap::SongList) - Took 9.9e-05s

Guessing this is indicative of some sort of 64 bit overflow issue?
