hald problems

[Art Alexion]

After upgrading from Kubuntu Breezy to Dapper, hald went evil on me and 
refuses to load.  This means, among other things, that I can't use amaroK to 
load my ipod.  

I have tried getting help from google, my local Linux group, the Kubuntu-users 
list and the hal developers.  No luck.  Any chance anyone here can help?

If so, I can post the details.  Please.
