First, last.fm support is disabled by default.

Second, last.fm is not some commercial venture like amazon.com. You
don't get peppered with ads and pop-ups when you switch it on in
amarok. ASFAICT, it is a non-profit community-driven enterprise, just
like MusicBrainz, which amarok also makes use of.
