"autoconf not found" when building svn

hi,

I'm trying to build amarok from svn but getting "autoconf not found"
errors:
$ make -f Makefile.cvs
This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

./admin/cvs.sh: 651: --version: not found
*** AUTOCONF NOT FOUND!.
*** KDE requires autoconf 2.53 or newer
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

all of the autoconf tools are in /usr/bin; this is on ubu tu edgy (some
pkgs from feisty). I tried setting the following variables manually in
admin/detect-autoconf.pl:

AUTOCONF=/usr/bin/autoconf
AUTOHEADER=/usr/bin/autoheader
AUTOM4TE=/usr/bine/autom4te
ACLOCAL=/usr/bin/aclocal
WHICH=/usr/bin/which

but no go.  Any hints?

thanks,

matt
