Storing playlists in the database is something several of us have been
kicking around for quite some time. After the idea originally hit a few
of us, I was going to start some work towards that about six months ago,
and I originally put a playlists table in the database for that
purpose. Since then I believe it's been taken out of the database
schema, then put back in by someone else who was going to start on it.
Since then it's been on the back burner a bit because it was thought
it'd wait until 2.0 for such a major change, although with 2.0 looking
far away (since KDE4 is looking to be far away), it may come sooner.
Anyways, with playlists in the database, you can expect some nice
features, such as faster playlist management, AFT-enabled playlists
(originally my interest in it), and more. It does require a lot of
careful planning though that AFAIK hasn't yet been done, so expect it to
come at some point, but not anytime *real* soon...
