Well, we do have a whole load of kernel patches and flavours available.
I'll try the multimedia kernels tomorrow and see if they provide any
more joy.
We do use 2.6.17 but not sure off hand if it has the "ck patchset". I
can take a look/ask tho'.

Yes perhaps it is that. I'll disable crossfade and try again (tomorrow
as my speakers are at work!)
