No luck with 1.4.2

I tried starting 1.4.2 with a new account and after showing the 
first-time-wizard amarok disappears. I can see amarokapp in the 
tasklist, consuming loads of cpu time, but it doesn't ever finish 
(well, not within two hours anyway, that's how long i've been waiting).

When started from konsole, I get some message about not using valgrind 
or gdb to run amarok????

However, updating an existing amarok installation works just fine.
