I am aware of the problems you have, and there are two open bug report
for it already:

This regression was introduced by some playlist refactoring done by
Ralf, I very much hope he soon finds time to fix that :)


But the episode update has been fixed since quite some time now,
running Amarok 2.7.0.-222
